What stays on your device

Your settings (topics, how often cards appear and when they wait) and the list of facts you've already seen, so every fact comes up once before any repeats, are stored only on your Mac, iPhone or iPad, in the app's own storage. They're never uploaded or shared.

Waiting for a better moment (Mac)

So a card never interrupts you, the Mac app checks, on your Mac and only at the moment a card is due:

• how long it's been since you last used the keyboard, mouse or trackpad, and whether the screen is locked;
• whether the app in front is full screen;
• whether another app is using the microphone, which usually means a call. Factastic never opens or listens to the microphone; it only reads whether it's in use;
• if you turn those options on, whether sound is playing and whether a Focus is on. Checking Focus needs your permission, which macOS asks for.

None of this is stored or sent anywhere. It's only used to decide whether to show a card now or a little later.

Daily facts (iPhone and iPad)

The daily fact is a local notification, scheduled on your device at the time you choose. No server is involved.

When Factastic uses the internet

• Update check (Mac): the Mac app asks Apple's public App Store lookup service whether a newer version exists. The request includes the app's identifier, not anything about you.
• Reviews: now and then the app may show Apple's standard "rate this app" prompt, which Apple handles.
• Contact and review links open this website or the App Store in your browser.

Like any request on the internet, the servers involved see your IP address as part of delivering the response. We don't use it to identify you.

Contact messages

If you use the contact form, your name (if provided), email address, topic, app version and message are sent to our contact service and forwarded to us by email. The service also uses your IP address and browser type to help block spam. We use this information to reply to you, not for marketing. You can also email [email protected] directly.

The form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks whether a submission is from a person.

This website

This site has no analytics or ads. The fact demo remembers the topics you pick in your own browser's local storage, which never leaves your device. The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which may process standard technical logs, like IP addresses, to deliver the site and keep it secure.

Children

Factastic doesn't collect personal data. Its facts are text only; a few mention history, such as wars, in an educational way. Please ask a parent or guardian before sending a contact message if you're a child.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
